Consultation (Initial Visit)

After completing registration, the radiation therapy nurse will escort you to an exam room. They will obtain the standard vital statistics such as height, weight, blood pressure, etc. and then visit with you to review your medical history and clarify any information.

After meeting with the nurse, the radiation oncologist will review your records, visit with you regarding your medical history, and then perform an examination.

It may be necessary for the physician to obtain additional records, order additional tests (labs, X-Ray, CT, MRI, a bone scan and/or PET scan) or contact other physicians to complete an assessment for the role of radiation therapy in your treatment.

After completing your assessment, the physician will discuss your treatment options. This discussion will include diagnosis, prognosis, and the risks and benefits of radiation therapy.

If you and your physician decide to proceed with radiation treatments, then you will be scheduled for a CT simulation.  This process will be discussed in the next section.

Please plan for at least 2 hours for this initial appointment. We ask that you also notify us of upcoming doctor visits, tests, or planned vacations.
